Derrick Hassert, Ph.D.,
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy & Counseling
Matteson, IL
My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where patients can explore their feelings and thoughts in order to gain insight into their problems. As a therapist I seek to foster a solid alliance with my patients in order to provide them with the best possible care. My approach to therapy is rooted in my belief that the patient’s perspective is the most important one and it is important to view each person as a unique individual. I'm currently an advanced candidate at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis, with previous training in interpersonal psychoanalytic psychotherapy through the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychology, and training in transference focused psychotherapy through Columbia University's Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of Illinois and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Indiana, offering services to individuals and couples.

"The brain is the organ of the mind. If we want to fully understand mental life, we must integrate the findings of neuroscience with all levels of the mind.

Neuropsychoanalysis is interested in the neurobiological underpinnings of how we act, think, and feel. As we begin to link brain activity with a psychoanalytic model of the mind, even at the deepest levels, a truly dynamic understanding can emerge."
